Chinese Intangible Heritage Incense - Yi'e Incense Guide

Journey of Yi'e Incense: Nature, Craft & Healing

1. Meet Yi'e Incense: A Millennium of Story in Wooden Box

The name "Yi'e Incense" traces back to the tender story of Li Yu (the last emperor of the Southern Tang Dynasty) and his beloved Empress Zhou Ehuang. Tired of cloying traditional incense, they hollowed out pear (the "king of fruits"), filled it with agarwood and sandalwood, then steamed and dried it repeatedly to create a delicate, refreshing fragrance that accompanied them in their chambers.

Natural Packaging

Sealed in solid wooden boxes to lock in the pure aroma of natural ingredients, no chemical additives at all.

Handcrafted with Care

Every stick is rolled, air-dried and aged by master craftsmen using intangible heritage techniques—each one carries the warmth of human hands.

"The fragrance of Yi'e Incense is not just scent, but a whisper of ancient Chinese romance and craftsmanship."

Step 1: Prepare

Take 1 stick of Yi'e Incense from the wooden box, get a lighter/match and an incense holder (lotus-shaped holder recommended).

Step 2: Light

Hold the tip of the incense to the flame until it catches fire, then blow out the flame—leave a small red ember (smoldering, not burning).

Step 3: Place & Enjoy

Insert the incense into the holder, place it in a well-ventilated area (avoid curtains/fabrics). Choose your healing scene:

  • 🧘 Meditation & Zen Practice: Let the gentle aroma calm your mind instantly
  • 🧘‍♀️ Yoga & Reading: Wrap yourself in warm fragrance to relax thoughts

3. Coming Soon: More Heritage Incense with Stories

Beyond Yi'e Incense, we will launch more intangible heritage incense series—each stick carries a piece of Chinese history:

  • Pine Breeze Incense: Blends pine needles and Thuja sutchuenensis, inspired by Tang Dynasty hermits who burned incense under pine trees to seek peace.
  • Osmanthus Moon Incense: Combines mid-autumn osmanthus and sandalwood, echoing the elegance of Song Dynasty literati who enjoyed incense while admiring the moon.

Every handcrafted stick is a meeting of natural herbs and millennial stories. Open the wooden box, and let the aroma slow you down to connect with ancient Chinese culture.
